A fair economy isn’t impossible, it’s overdue.
The current economic system is broken, and it’s time to reimagine it. We’re creating new economic opportunities that have people and the planet at heart, building an economic future that works for everyone.

the challenge
In Australia, inequality has a postcode.
Disadvantage is disproportionately concentrated to a small number of communities, where people experience economic, social, and environmental barriers that shape their lives. This becomes generational, as children who grow up with entrenched disadvantaged are more likely to face the same barriers.
our response
A new model for real outcomes.
Neighbourhood Economics is committed to creating new, inclusive economic opportunities in places of entrenched disadvantage, and doing so with people and the planet at heart. We’re building an economic future that’s regenerative, shares prosperity, and enables everyone to participate.
our Approach
Let’s reimagine.
Neighbourhood Economics is dedicated to reimagining the local neighbourhood economies where prosperity has not been equally shared. It recognises the need to move beyond traditional economic development, focusing on democratic ownership, shared value, human connection, and distributed power. Rooted in the belief that development must create new value (not just redistribute it). We aim to foster lasting wellbeing in Australia’s most disadvantaged suburbs.

We’re focussed on creating new value for more people. We value ownership, shared prosperity, and connection, to achieve lasting community wellbeing, reimagining the economies of Australia’s most disadvantaged suburbs.
Your postcode shouldn’t define your future.

What now?
It’s going to take all of us, together.
Real change needs courage, collaboration, and a new kind of thinking. We’re currently building a coalition of the willing — people ready to roll up their sleeves and make change happen. So far, we’ve started bringing together change makers from different places and backgrounds who share a common goal. We’re just getting started, and there’s plenty of room for more.
Early adopters
Seeding the future.
TDi and the Give Where You Live Foundation the are seeding partners of Neighbourhood Economics – what began as a bold idea has grown into a new initiative.
Both organisations took a chance on something new, recognising the need for fresh thinking in how we approach economic development. Each made a strategic decision to invest, not just in a project, but in the possibility of a fairer, more inclusive future. Their early support laid the groundwork for what is becoming a new way forward.

Neighbourhood Economics is a bold, practical approach to rethinking economies – built from lived experience, and backed by action. The system isn’t working for everyone, and it’s time to do things differently.

We meet on Wadawarrung Country
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands, paying respect to Elders past and present. We recognise the loss of lands and culture, knowing the consequences for people and community.
In seeking to foster community-driven economic growth, we first acknowledge the ongoing connections of First Nations people to these lands, their waters, and the local community, and we acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded.
